Lucky 13

It was 13 years ago that this SOULFLOWER adventure began! I sheepishly but with a faux confidence walked into San Francisco City Hall to apply for my business license and file the fictitious biz thingy (still don’t get that part, it’s not fictions anymore!) Because on a whim a friend of friend had asked if I would do their wedding flowers. I think friends were tried of hearing about my love for flowers but lack of action. I’d worked with flowers since I was 15 years old but never saw any talent within myself. So I got over that for a moment and had to think of a name, ugh. In college I had always loved a song by the The Pharcyde called ‘Soul Flower’ and especially the remix with The Brand New Heavies and it had layers of meaning for what I wanted to create so I picked it. And holy heck it has been a life changing, incredibly enlivening and sometimes bone crushingly depleting WILD RIDE!!

I’ve learned a thousand lessons that I’ve lost track (trying to start documenting them to help others!) And the relationships and connections and ridiculous creative challenges (“how the hell do we build that??”) and watching so many ‘life moments’ with people—it’s so meaningful. And I’m so grateful for all the support and encouragement from near and far, it blows me away. People want people to succeed, to pursue their dreams and follow their hearts.

Not sure exactly how we got HERE, but I’m grateful and feel like it is truly a lucky 🍀 13 years of business.
